Lessons Learned from Reading The Achievement Habit

The Achievement Habit by Bernard Roth reminded me that talent and ideas are only part of the equation — the harder step is the doing.

The Achievement Habit is a good read. It reminded me of being in college and going to a professor’s office and having a series of good conversations with them.

The author introduces the idea that only a few people actually follow through with their hopes and dreams. I would go a step further and say only a few know what their hopes and dreams are. Only a few have defined what their hopes and dreams actually are.

“Only a small percentage ever followed through on what they really wanted to do with their lives, and I hoped to do something to change that. Having talent and good ideas is only part of the equation. The next step — the harder step — is the doing, taking the responsibility for designing success in your own life.”

This quote hit hard. Most people have dreams but few do the work of defining them clearly, and even fewer take daily action toward them.

If you want to reach the high levels of achievement you need clarity into what your hopes and dreams are. After you gain that clarity by defining them, you need to begin to design your own life — and that’s what this book is all about.

Highly recommend picking it up. It’s short, practical, and thought-provoking.
